Friedman’s is located at 9th Ave and 15th St, inside the historic Chelsea Market. Having undergone a significant renovation, it’s new decor is warm and friendly. More importantly, however, is the new menu featuring a wide range of gluten free options. The Celiac Chicks have the final copy of the new lunch menu and brunch menu.

This afternoon, I dragged C___ to test out some of the new brunch options. Upon entering the restaurant, I was happily surprised at the changes that had been made. Say buh-bye to the old pickle jars! Now, a long wood farm-style table graced the entrance – the perfect place for a brunch party with friends. The use of wood and texture created an inviting space, and small details like water bottles on each table and silverware wrapped in twine added some personal touches.

We tucked in to a table in the back, ordered some much-needed coffee, and tried to decide what to order. There’s over 14 gluten-free options on the brunch menu, so it took a while. Although the B.E.L.T. (bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato) and Pastrami Hash both made my mouth water, I opted for the Eggs with Style and a side of fries. Fries!! (Just the fact that they have gluten free fries is enough to make me head there once a week).

The potato pancake that comes with the meal was one of the best parts of the meal. It was quite thick with a crisp outside – but managed to do so without being oily. The gluten free toast was almost a mock-rye bread with pumpernickel seeds. A throwback to their deli days, I’m going to be sure to ask if there are other options the next time I’m in there. Something a bit more hearty (whether a Challah-style or farm-style bread) would be a welcome surprise to find there. The herbed French Fries were delicious. Crisp on the outside, the fries were soft on the inside thanks to their thickness. Dipped in the bit of ketchup that comes with them, they were perfection itself. Thinking back, I never got the bacon that was part of the dish … so be sure to check to make sure you’ve got everything you ordered! All-in-all, it was a very positive eating experience. Definitely check them out.
Update
I just can’t stay away. Here are some more photos from some recent brunching and dining experiences.

The Alaskan Brunch is so much more tasty than my picture makes it look! I never would have thought it, but the flavors of all the parts add up to a mighty delicious brunch experience.

I left this Roast Turkey Breast in its take-out container because I was SO excited about being able to order food to-go. I can’t remember the last time I was able to get take-out. The fries were amazing right out of the paper bag, and the turkey with apricot & rosemary glaze put me into a welcome food-coma.

The gluten-free, dairy-free brownie. Moist and chewy.

B.E.L.T. = Bacon, Egg, Lettuce, Tomato (and Pickle). A great way to start your morning. I love large breakfasts, so I chose to add the side of french fries.

The long table at the front of Friedman’s in Chelsea Market. Every time I sat here I’ve made new friends.
